Dollarama's customer service FAQ is blunt about returns: its policy does not allow exchanges or refunds, and that policy is posted on signs near the checkout and printed on the receipts themselves. It leaves one opening. Dollarama says it may review a request when you present your receipt, which makes the paper receipt worth keeping even for a few dollars of party supplies.
No refunds or exchanges, with one exception
To ask for a review, Dollarama points you to the online contact form titled "Product-related comment". The request rests on the receipt. Without it, customer service has nothing to look at.
Finding a store receipt later
The same FAQ covers payment methods, taxes, gift cards and online shopping, and none of it describes a way to look up or reprint a store receipt after you leave. Treat the printed copy as the only one: keep it with you, or take a picture of it before you walk out.
A card or bank statement will show a charge from Dollarama and the total. It won't list the items or the sales tax, and those are what a review request or an expense claim relies on.
Orders placed through delivery apps
Dollarama sells online by the unit through third-party delivery platforms: Skip, Instacart, Uber Eats and DoorDash, with most stores on two or more of them. The receipt for that kind of order comes from the app you used, not from Dollarama. Our guides to SkipTheDishes, Instacart, Uber Eats and DoorDash show where each one keeps it.
Taxes and fees on the slip
Dollarama notes that tax rates vary by product and by province. Its FAQ also explains that the charge on bottled water is usually a Container Recycling Fee rather than a deposit, and that this fee isn't refundable. Stores take cash, debit, credit cards and select gift cards.
For a business purchase, the Canada Revenue Agency asks for more detail as the total grows. Under $100, the seller's name, the date and the total are enough to support an input tax credit. From $100, the receipt also has to show Dollarama's GST/HST registration number and the tax charged.
Save it while you're at checkout
Photograph the Dollarama slip in the Smartbills app before it goes in a bag. Each item and tax line is read off it, and a review request or an expense claim later has something to work from. Receipts that delivery apps send by email are filed by email receipt capture.
