Loyalty program software that never holds up the line

A loyalty and rewards program with nothing to download. The tap that pays signs customers up, points accrue per item, and rewards appear on the next receipt.

A barista hands a coffee to a customer at the counter

Customers join with one tap on their digital receipt, earn points per item and find the reward on their next receipt.

A digital loyalty card nobody has to carry or download

Customers join from the receipt itself, from the QR code at the terminal, or from the Smartbills app if they already use it. They choose once, and on their next visit they're recognized without anyone having to ask.

  • Join by SMS, email, QR at the terminal or the Smartbills app
  • Linked cards recognize the return visit at checkout
  • Consent asked for and logged, never a pre-ticked box

Points earned on what was bought

Because the receipt arrives itemized, your earn rules can see exactly what was bought. Reward a category, a single product, a time of day or a basket size, and leave out anything that should never earn points.

  • Rules by item, category, time of day, location or basket size
  • Item detail straight from the point of sale, no receipt photos
  • Alcohol, gift cards and tax excluded automatically by rule

Rewards come back on the next receipt

People open their receipts. An offer shown on the next digital receipt actually gets seen. It carries a single-use code the terminal redeems, and the discount stays attached to the sale it was used on.

See what the program is actually worth

Track repeat visits, basket size and what each redemption cost you. It's all measured on the same sales your books are built from. The numbers line up with what your accountant sees.

How a POS loyalty program on the receipt works.

  1. Connect your point of sale

Square, Toast, Clover, Lightspeed or Shopify POS. Smartbills then gets the itemized receipt for every sale, and the program runs on it.

  2. Set earn rules

A point per dollar, double points on Tuesdays, none on gift cards. Rules read each item, so they can be as specific as your menu.

  3. Customers join on the receipt

One consent, in your business's name, on the receipt they already asked for. Their card is recognized on every visit after that.

  4. Rewards on the next receipt

Balance, progress and the current offer show on the receipt, and rewards are redeemed at the terminal.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What people ask us before they sign up.

Loyalty program software runs the sign-ups, points and rewards behind a store's loyalty program and shows what the program is worth. Smartbills runs it on the digital receipt: customers join without downloading an app, earn points on what they bought and see their rewards on the next receipt.

No. Customers join on the receipt, by SMS, by email or from the QR code at the terminal, and everything works in a web browser. If they already use the Smartbills app, they'll see their balance and offers there next to their receipts, but nobody has to download it to join.

There's nothing to carry or install. Signing up doesn't slow down your line, and points are counted from the items on the receipt rather than the total. That means the program rewards the products you want people buying again.

It works with the same systems Smartbills already gets digital receipts from, including Square, Toast, Clover, Lightspeed and Shopify POS. You set the program up once for your business and it applies to every terminal and location on that system. Opening a second location doesn't mean a second integration.

Joining is an explicit opt-in, logged and in your business's name, given when the customer picks how they want their receipt. It's never a pre-ticked box and never assumed from a purchase. Consent records, withdrawals and member access requests are designed around Quebec's Law 25, PIPEDA and CASL.

Yes. Earn rules can be set for the whole group and adjusted for individual locations, and reports roll up or break down along the same structure. Each franchisee sees their own redemption cost, while head office sees the whole program.

It can, but it doesn't have to. Smartbills can run the entire program, or it can handle sign-up and delivery for the program you already have. If you keep your current provider, what matters is whether they accept points data at the item level, and most do.

Their receipt, with a balance and a progress line underneath and the current offer if there is one. We kept it to that on purpose, because a program that needs a second screen to explain where someone stands is one they stop paying attention to.

Yes, in the sense that it runs on the sales your point of sale already records. Smartbills receives the itemized receipt from Square, Toast, Clover, Lightspeed or Shopify POS, and sign-ups, points and rewards all work from that receipt. The difference from a program built into one point of sale is that customers join on the receipt rather than at the terminal, and points can be earned on specific items.

Yes. Restaurants on Square, Toast or Clover can let guests join on the receipt after they pay, instead of at the counter during the lunch rush. Earn rules can target a dish, a category or a time of day, such as double points on a slow afternoon, and the reward appears on the guest's next receipt.

In practice very little, and most people use the two terms for the same thing. When a difference is made, a rewards program hands out perks for purchases, while a loyalty program is built to bring the same customer back over time, with points or offers tied to their history. Smartbills does both on the receipt: points on what was bought, and the next reward on the next receipt.

It suits small businesses that already take payments on Square, Toast, Clover, Lightspeed or Shopify POS. There's nothing new to install at the counter and nothing for customers to download. You connect the point of sale, set your earn rules and sign up your first member on a receipt they were getting anyway.

Ask whether customers have to download an app, whether points can be earned on specific items rather than only on the total, which point-of-sale systems it works with, and whether it runs across several locations. Each one changes how many customers actually join.
