For people
The Smartbills app keeps every receipt you get, sorted and searchable. A return, a warranty claim or a tax deduction starts with a search instead of a shoebox.
Learn more: For peopleAbout us
Smartbills is a software company in Montréal. We take the itemized receipt from the merchant's checkout and deliver it as data, to the person who paid and to the books it ends up in.
Why we started
A card payment leaves two records behind. The bank keeps the amount. The receipt, the one that says what was bought, gets printed on thermal paper and lost.
Then someone spends the end of the month putting the two back together: finding the receipt, photographing it, typing in the tax. The merchant's system knew all of it at the moment of payment. It just had nowhere to send it.
What we do
We connect to the point-of-sale systems merchants already run, like Square, Toast, Clover, Lightspeed and Shopify POS. When someone pays, the itemized receipt shows up in their Smartbills app within seconds, with every line, every tax and the card it was paid with.
How digital receipts workWho it's for
The person who bought something needs proof of it. The business paying for it needs it in the books. We build for both.

Where we are
Our office is at Place Ville-Marie, downtown. The product works in both of Canada's official languages and splits GST, HST, QST and PST line by line, because that's what a Canadian receipt looks like. Quebec's privacy law applies to everything we build, and we build with it in mind.
