Renaud-Bray and Archambault, the Québec bookstore and music chains, work the same way for online orders: the documents that matter are the invoice and the delivery slip that come with the order. Neither chain publishes a way to reprint a receipt for a purchase made at checkout. In store, the paper receipt is the one to keep.
The invoice for an online order
On Renaud-Bray.com, each order has one order number and one invoice number. If you order for several sub-accounts at once, Renaud-Bray groups them under a single invoice and delivery address; to get a separate invoice for each, place the orders one account at a time. Archambault.ca has a My Account area with an orders section, which is the place to start when you need an order's details. For a copy you can't find, contact the customer service team of the chain you ordered from; Archambault's is at client@archambault.ca.
Returns within 10 days
Both chains give you 10 days from delivery to return an online purchase:
- Defective or wrong item: exchanged or refunded, shipping included. Renaud-Bray asks for the delivery slip or a copy of the Renaud-Bray.com invoice; Archambault asks for the delivery slip.
- Any other reason: you choose an exchange, a gift card or a refund, but a 10% administration fee applies and shipping isn't refunded. If you had free shipping, the fee is 20% of the item's price.
- In store: bring the item and the delivery slip to a store of the same chain and the administration fee doesn't apply.
Video, audio and games must be in their original packaging unless they're defective. Archambault doesn't exchange or refund musical instruments, software, electronics, microphones, in-ear headphones or sheet music; regular accessories can be returned unopened with their invoice within 10 days of purchase.
Prices and taxes
Prices on both sites are shown in Canadian dollars before taxes and shipping. The invoice is where you see the full amount you paid, with the taxes broken out.
Books and music for work
Professional books and reference material bought for a business are an expense like any other. Keep the invoice, which shows the taxes, rather than the order confirmation page.
Renaud-Bray and Archambault paperwork in one place
The delivery slip arrives in the box and the store receipt in a bag, which is how both get lost. Photograph them in the Smartbills app when they arrive, and you'll have the proof both chains ask for within the 10-day window, with the taxes read and the purchase ready for an expense report.
