How to get a TJ Maxx receipt

TJ Maxx

You can return an item to a TJ Maxx store without a receipt, but you leave with a merchandise credit instead of your money back. TJ Maxx asks for a valid government-issued photo ID, your name, address and signature for every non-receipted return, and you need the same ID again to spend the credit. For online orders, the shipping confirmation email counts as the receipt, and tjmaxx.com keeps your order history for six months.

Online order lookup on tjmaxx.com

  1. Go to my account and sign in with your email address and password.
  2. Click the my orders tab in the account information section.
  3. Click view order details on the order you need.

Orders stay there for six months only. The order details page also holds the barcode a store associate scans when you bring an online purchase back, and the packing slip in the box is a receipt too.

Email receipts at the register

Select TJ Maxx stores can send your receipt by email. When the option exists, the PIN pad prompts you to choose Email Receipt and to type your phone number and email address. You still get the paper copy, and the email version is accepted for returns. Two details from TJ Maxx's FAQ: the phone number lets the PIN pad find your email address on your next visit, and asking for an email receipt opts you into TJX marketing emails, which you can unsubscribe from.

Returning to TJ Maxx without a receipt

The in-store policy pays a refund only for merchandise brought back with a valid register receipt within 30 days of purchase. Everything else gets merchandise credit: returns after 30 days, returns with a gift receipt and returns with no receipt at all.

  • Name, address, signature and a valid government-issued photo ID are required for every non-receipted return.
  • The name on the ID you show when you redeem the credit must match the ID used when it was issued, or the credit may not be usable.
  • TJ Maxx runs returns through refund verification systems and can limit or decline them.
  • Used, worn or unsellable items are refused, and swimwear or intimate apparel needs its tickets attached.

A TJ Maxx store purchase goes back to a TJ Maxx store only. Marshalls and the other sister brands will not take it.

Online orders without the confirmation email

Online orders can be returned to any TJ Maxx store within 40 days of the order date. Without the email, the barcode or the order number, TJ Maxx's FAQ asks for a valid government-issued photo ID, your name and address, and you receive a physical merchandise credit. Bring the plastic bags with barcodes the items arrived in as well.

Keeping TJ Maxx receipts past six months

Six months of online history and a paper slip from the register is not much of a paper trail for a coat you may want to return or a lamp you bought for the office. Email receipt capture files each TJ Maxx email receipt and shipping confirmation from your inbox the day it arrives. With bill fetching, our AI agent logs in to tjmaxx.com for you and copies each online order before it drops out of my orders. For a store that only printed a slip, take a photo of it in the Smartbills app at the register.
