Tim Hortons gives you a receipt in one of two ways, depending on how you ordered. A mobile order through the Tim Hortons app comes with an emailed receipt and stays in the app's order history. A purchase made at the counter or the drive-thru comes with a paper receipt, and that's the only copy you get.
Receipts for mobile orders
When you place a mobile order, Tim Hortons emails you a receipt with a breakdown of the order. If you can't find it, search your inbox for Tim Hortons, and check Spam and Promotions.
The order is also kept in the app:
- Open the Tim Hortons app.
- Tap the Account icon in the top-right corner.
- Select Recent orders.
- Find the order and select View details to see the items and what you paid.
Catering orders
Catering orders placed online appear under Recent orders on TimHortons.ca as well, which is where to look for the details of a larger order for a meeting or an event.
Counter and drive-thru purchases
A purchase you paid for at the counter or the drive-thru without the app isn't in your app's order history. Keep the paper receipt, or take a photo of it right away: thermal receipts fade, and a card statement shows only the total, not the items or the tax.
Getting a problem fixed
If a mobile order was wrong or never reached the restaurant, Tim Hortons' help center handles refund requests for mobile orders. For an in-store issue, a restaurant manager can use your receipt to correct it, which is one more reason to keep it.
Tim Hortons receipts as business expenses
Coffee for a client meeting or catering for a team event is a meal and entertainment expense. In Canada, you can generally deduct 50% of it, and claim back the GST/HST on the same 50%. Keep the itemized receipt and note who attended and why.
Tim Hortons receipts that file themselves
Mobile-order receipts arrive by email, where email receipt capture picks them up and reads the items and each tax line. For counter purchases, photograph the paper receipt in the Smartbills app before you leave, and it goes straight onto your expense report.
