How to find a Walmart receipt (in-store and online)

To find a Walmart receipt, sign in to Walmart.com or the app and open Account, then Purchase history. Online orders are always there, and store purchases appear when you paid with a card saved to your account. Not there? Scan the paper receipt in the app, or use Walmart's receipt lookup with the store, date, total and card.
Walmart.com orders
- Sign in on Walmart's website or open the app.
- Go to Account, then Purchase history.
- Open the order. The totals, tax and payment method are at the bottom, with an option to print or save it.
Store purchases paid with a saved card
If you pay in a store with a card saved to your Walmart.com account, the purchase is added to your online purchase history automatically. Walmart also adds other store purchases made with your saved cards in the last 12 months. You can switch this off under Account, Communications & privacy, Store purchases.
Adding a paper receipt with the app
Still have the paper slip? Open the Walmart app, tap the barcode icon in the search bar and scan the barcode on the receipt. The purchase joins your history and stays there even if you later opt out of automatic store purchase tracking.
The receipt lookup tool
For a card purchase that is not in your history and with no paper copy, Walmart's receipt lookup can find it. You will need:
- The store's ZIP code, or its city and state.
- The purchase date and the total.
- The card type and the last four digits of the card.
Enter those, complete the check and download the receipt. If you paid with something other than a debit or credit card, use Walmart's chat instead.
Cash purchases
The lookup cannot find cash purchases. Scanning the paper receipt in the app on the day is the only reliable way to keep them, otherwise ask the customer service desk at the store where you bought it.
Walmart Canada
At a Walmart Canada self-checkout you are offered a digital copy of the receipt by email or text. Scanning your Walmart Account ID in the app at checkout gives you an itemized list of your store purchases in the app.
Walmart Business
Walmart Business accounts have their own purchase history and receipt tools, including receipt lookup for purchases paid with Walmart Pay in the Walmart Business app.
What an expense claim needs
The receipt needs to show the date, the store, what you bought and the tax. A card statement only shows the total, which most expense policies and tax authorities do not accept on its own.
Returning to Walmart without a receipt
Try to find the receipt first. Walmart's return policy says staff can look up store purchases with the debit or credit card you paid with, and online orders with your phone number or email. A found purchase is a normal return, refunded to your original payment. A card refund made without the paper receipt can take up to 7 business days.
With no receipt at all, Walmart asks for a valid government-issued photo ID and runs the return through its refund verification process. If the return is accepted, you are refunded on a Walmart gift card, not in cash. Walmart also limits how many returns without a receipt one person can make, and how often. Most items can be returned within 90 days.
Three ways to stop chasing Walmart receipts
Walmart receipts reach you three different ways, and each has a matching fix. Online orders and Walmart Canada's emailed receipts land in your inbox, where email receipt capture picks them up and reads the store, date, total and tax. Paper slips from a quick store run can go straight into the Smartbills app with a photo at checkout. And because your Walmart account already collects card purchases from the last 12 months, you can connect it once and let our AI agent sign in and pull each receipt from purchase history with bill fetching.
