Marshalls takes returns without a receipt, but you leave with merchandise credit, not a refund. You need a valid government-issued photo ID along with your name, address and signature, and the name on that ID must match the ID you show when you spend the credit. With a valid register receipt, store purchases are refunded within 30 days of purchase, and marshalls.com orders get 40 days from the order date.
Store purchases: 30 days for a refund
Bring the item and the register receipt within 30 days for a refund. Merchandise credit replaces the refund in three cases: returns after 30 days, returns with a gift receipt, and returns with no receipt. Used, worn or unsellable items are refused, and swimwear and intimate apparel need their tickets attached. Refund verification systems can limit or decline a return.
One rule catches people out. An item bought at Marshalls can only go back to a Marshalls store, not to T.J. Maxx or another sister brand.
Holiday dates for 2026
Store purchases made from October 4 to December 24, 2026 can be returned through January 25, 2027. Online purchases in the same window can come back through February 4, 2027. Gift returns with a receipt get store credit, and the normal policy resumes for purchases from December 26, 2026.
Email receipts at the register
Some Marshalls stores offer e-receipts. Choose Email Receipt on the PIN pad, enter your phone number and email address, and you still get the paper copy. The email version is accepted for returns under the same policy. Marshalls ties one email address to one phone number, and that address is kept apart from the one on your TJX Rewards credit card. Requesting an email receipt also signs you up for TJX brand marketing, which you can unsubscribe from.

For an online order, the receipt is the printed packing slip or the shipping confirmation email. Mail returns arriving within 40 days are refunded to the original payment, minus $11.99 for each return package. Mail refunds without a receipt aren't allowed. In a store, show the shipping confirmation email or the barcode or order number from your order details. Purchases paid with a Rewards Certificate come back as a digital merchandise credit.

Marshalls receipts you can find again
Email receipts and shipping confirmations both reach your inbox, where email receipt capture files them before the return window closes. A paper slip from a store without e-receipts takes one photo in the receipt scanner. Decor or supplies bought for a business can then go onto expense reports.
