How to get a Gap receipt

Card and phone number lookup at a Gap store

Bring the item and one of these:

• the receipt
• your rewards phone number
• the credit card used for the purchase

Store returns and exchanges are free. A refund to a credit card can take up to 10 more business days to post.

Longer windows for Encore members

Gap's FAQ now calls its loyalty program the Encore Membership Program, while some of the site still says Gap Good Rewards. Two tiers get more time if they were signed in online or gave their phone number at the register:

• Premier Members: up to 45 days.
• All-Access Cardmembers: up to 60 days.

Past day 30, either tier receives a Merchandise Return Card, not a refund. That phone number at checkout does double duty as your receipt.

Holiday purchases

Items bought online or in stores between October 15 and December 24 can be returned through January 15 of the next year, or 30 days after purchase or delivery if that is later. Proof of purchase is still required, and third-party seller items are excluded.

Gap items with their own rules

• Gap Beauty goes back in a store only, and opened or used products are refused.
• Sunglasses need the original receipt and tags within 30 days, unless defective.
• Swimwear, with tags and hygienic liner, and maternity go back by mail only.
• Masks, final sale items and anything from the Encore Market cannot be returned.

A gift that arrives with neither a gift receipt nor the invoice is exchanged for a merchandise certificate at today's selling price.

Gap, Gap Factory and marketplace orders

Gap items cannot be returned at Gap Factory, Old Navy, Athleta, Banana Republic or Banana Republic Factory. Orders placed through TikTok Shop or DoorDash go back through that marketplace's own order history, under its own rules. Store purchases cannot be mailed back.

Gap receipts that outlive the card you paid with

The card lookup fails once the card is replaced, and the phone lookup only helps if you remembered to give your number.
