How to get a Canac invoice

Receipts and invoices

At Canac, the invoice you get at the counter is the one that matters. The return policy asks for an original copy of it on every return, and nothing on Canac's official pages offers a lookup or a duplicate. Contractors and owner-builders who buy on a Canac customer account also receive an account statement, and the ID number at the bottom of it is what you use to pay online.

The original invoice is the proof

Canac counts its 30-day return window from the purchase date printed on your invoice. The product must be intact, unused and in its original, undamaged packaging, and you hand over an original copy of the invoice to prove the purchase and its date. Canac may also ask for your name, address, phone number, email or a piece of ID. The policy describes no alternative for a missing invoice.

The Canac customer account

A customer account is Canac's credit account for individuals, owner-builders, contractors and other businesses. The terms: a 1% rebate before taxes when you pay before the 15th of the following month, or the net amount by the 30th, with a credit limit set according to your projects, subject to approval. You apply through an online form, processed with Alliance Crédit, and the file is reviewed in about 24 business hours.

To pay on the website of most major banks, enter the ID number printed at the bottom of your account statement. For anything about the account, the credit department answers at 1-866-872-8910 or credit@canac.ca, Monday to Friday.

Canac Chantier for contractors

Several branches run Canac Chantier: a dedicated counter and entrance, fast order-taking, material estimates, project management and on-site delivery. The counter opens from 7 am for contractors holding an RBQ licence, with or without an account.

Online orders picked up in the yard

A canac.ca order is collected straight from the yard, without going through the checkout. The pickup email arrives a few minutes after the order confirmation, and you have 72 hours to come by. Bring your proof of purchase. For an order you won't collect, email serviceweb@canac.ca or call 1-844-882-2622 to ask for a full or partial refund.

Return fees and exclusions

A product bought in store can only go back to a store, never by courier. Online purchases are returned in the yard within the same 30 days. Refunds follow the original payment method, although Canac may charge a return fee of 10% of the refund. Delivery fees stay non-refundable. Tinted paint, cut products, special orders, clearance items, plants and gift cards can't be returned.

GST and QST on Canac purchases

For an input tax credit, the CRA wants the supplier's GST/HST registration number on purchases from $100, plus your name and a brief description from $500. Make sure the invoice also shows Canac's QST number; for confirming a QST number, the CRA points you to Revenu Québec.

A copy of every Canac invoice

Keep the paper original for a possible return and a copy for your books. A photo in the Smartbills app reads the items, GST and QST the moment you leave the yard. Canac.ca confirmation and pickup emails are filed by email receipt capture, and the GST and QST you paid all season are totalled for tax time.
