Best Western hotels are independently operated, and Best Western says to contact the hotel directly for questions about billing or receipts: credit card and billing information is only accessible by the hotel.
At check-out
Ask for the itemized folio when you leave, or ask the hotel to email it. That's the document an expense claim or a points request needs.
For a past stay
Call or email the hotel with your confirmation number, dates and the name on the booking, and ask for a copy of the folio.
Booked through Expedia or Booking.com
A Best Western room reserved through an online travel agency comes with the agency's own receipt for what you paid it. For the tax side, Expedia sends you to the hotel for a receipt for tax purposes, and Booking.com says only the property can issue an invoice. Our guides to the Expedia receipt and the Booking.com invoice explain the split. Ask the front desk for the folio either way.
Missing points need the receipt
If you booked somewhere other than bestwestern.com or a Best Western reservations centre, a missing-points request goes in with an itemized hotel receipt, and stays older than six months can't be reviewed. Keep the folio.
What a Canadian folio should show
For a business stay, the CRA scales its requirements to the amount. A folio of $100 or more has to show the hotel's GST/HST registration number and the tax charged. From $500, it must also name the guest or the company, describe the stay and show the payment terms. A hotel in Québec adds the QST and the lodging tax, which our Québec hotel bill guide explains.
Best Western folios, filed
An emailed folio is read by email receipt capture, with the nights and taxes on separate lines. If the hotel hands you paper, a photo in the Smartbills app does the same job, and the stay lands on your expense report with the rest of the trip.
