How to get an Air Canada receipt

Air Canada

Air Canada issues an itinerary-receipt after you buy a ticket. It shows the total price and the breakdown of taxes, fees, charges and surcharges, and it is the document an expense report or a GST/HST claim needs.

What the breakdown shows

The amount you pay in taxes, fees and surcharges depends on your itinerary: the airports, connections and countries involved. Before you pay, the full split appears on the Review Flight Details page. After you pay, the same detail is on the itinerary-receipt. For a domestic flight, that is where the GST or HST is shown.

Booked directly with Air Canada

For bookings made on aircanada.com (including Aeroplan bookings, and bookings started on Google Flights, Kayak or Skyscanner that finished on Air Canada's site), open Manage your booking from the home page to get a copy of your ticket or receipt.

Receipt requests after you fly

For proof of payment for a ticket or another fee you paid, use the Receipt requests option in the post-travel part of Air Canada's Customer Support section. It opens a web form for exactly this. Questions about a flight reward paid with points go through the Aeroplan section instead.

Aeroplan points and missing credit

If points for a flight do not appear, Air Canada suggests waiting at least 14 days after the trip, then submitting a missing points request with your boarding pass, e-ticket or booking receipt handy. Another reason to keep the itinerary-receipt.

Refunds

When a cancelled booking is refunded, Air Canada issues a refund receipt. It shows that you no longer hold a travel credit for the booking, which some travel insurers ask for before they pay a claim. Refunds go back to the original payment method.

Tickets sold by a travel agent

If an online agency or a travel agent sold the ticket, contact them. They use their own booking systems, which Air Canada cannot access, and they issue the receipt or ticket copy.

GST/HST on a business trip

For an input tax credit, CRA asks for the supplier's GST/HST registration number on purchases of $100 or more, plus your name and a description at $500 or more. A domestic Air Canada ticket usually crosses both lines. Keep the full itinerary-receipt, not just the card charge.

Air Canada receipts, filed as you book

Air Canada emails the itinerary-receipt right after purchase, which is the best moment to catch it. Email receipt capture collects it from your inbox and reads the GST/HST and other charges, and the input tax credit is ready at tax time. If you fly often, connect your Aeroplan account and let our AI agent sign in to Manage your booking and fetch each itinerary-receipt with bill fetching, including the seat and bag purchases added after booking.
