How to get a VIA Rail receipt

When you book on viarail.ca, the trip confirmation, the trip receipt and the boarding passes are emailed to the booking's main contact. Start your search in that inbox.
Getting the booking back
If you misplaced or deleted the booking email, you can get the booking back at any time:
- Sign in to your VIA Rail profile, or use the booking lookup with the first name, last name and booking number.
- Open the booking to print or download the boarding passes, or have them resent to the email address on the booking.
A copy for each passenger
Each passenger can have their own email address on the booking. They then get their own boarding pass and can open the whole booking and change it. For a team trip where each person expenses their own seat, this saves forwarding emails around.
Confirmation, boarding pass and receipt
The booking confirmation can be printed, but it cannot be used to board. If you change the booking, VIA Rail emails a new boarding pass. The receipt is the document that shows what you paid, including the taxes; VIA Préférence points are calculated from the price on that receipt after discounts and taxes.
VIA Préférence
Members can see their points history in their account. Requests for points on a past trip are limited to the previous six months, and VIA may ask for a copy of the original ticket as proof of travel.
Corporate accounts
Companies that book a lot of rail travel can apply for a VIA Rail corporate account, which gives a discount whatever the class of service. Corporate account purchases do not earn VIA Préférence points.
GST/HST on a rail ticket
For a business trip, keep the trip receipt itself, which shows the fare and taxes. A boarding pass alone does not support an input tax credit, and CRA asks for the supplier's registration number on purchases of $100 or more.
VIA Rail receipts in one place
Because VIA emails the receipt only to the main contact, receipts for a team trip often sit in one person's inbox. Email receipt capture picks them up from that inbox and splits fare and tax for the expense reports. Frequent travellers can also connect their VIA Rail profile and let our AI agent sign in and save each trip receipt as it is issued, through bill fetching.
