How to get an Amtrak receipt

When you book on Amtrak.com or in the Amtrak app, the eTicket arrives as a PDF attached to your emailed receipt. That email is your receipt, and the PDF is your ticket. One eTicket covers up to eight passengers on the same reservation.
Looking up an Amtrak receipt
- Search your inbox for the Amtrak receipt email and print another copy of the attached PDF.
- Or open the trip in the Amtrak app, where the eTicket is also stored.
Bought at a station or by phone
At a ticket counter or kiosk, the agent prints the eTicket, one per passenger. If you book by phone at 1-800-USA-RAIL, the eTicket is emailed to you to print yourself. Either way, keep what you are given for your records.
A lost paper ticket
Paper value tickets come from travel agencies and corporate travel offices. If you lose one, call 1-800-USA-RAIL and ask for the Refund Department to request a ticket receipt copy. Amtrak charges a $20 fee per reservation, needs a credit card to process it, and faxes or mails the copy to you.
Cancellations and eVouchers
If you miss a reservation-required train without telling Amtrak, the money paid is stored as an eVoucher. An eVoucher created at a ticket counter comes with a printed eVoucher receipt and an email. One created online or by phone comes as an email only. To request a refund of a refundable amount by mail, Amtrak asks for the eVoucher receipt or a printout of the email, with your name, address and phone number. eVouchers expire one year after the original ticket was issued.
Corporate travel office bookings
A travel agency or corporate travel office issues a paper ticket rather than an eTicket. Ask them for the invoice your company needs.
Receipt, not ticket
Keep the receipt email rather than a screenshot of the ticket. It shows the fare paid, which is what reimbursement needs, while the eTicket only proves you were booked.
Amtrak receipts kept without trying
Since Amtrak puts the receipt and the ticket in the same email, catching that email solves both. Email receipt capture files each Amtrak booking from your inbox with the fare read off, and keeps eVoucher emails too in case a refund is due. If you book under an Amtrak Guest Rewards account, connect it and our AI agent signs in and pulls the receipt for each trip with bill fetching. Both feed the same expense report.
