Ace Hardware does not publish one no-receipt rule for its stores. Its help center says each Ace Hardware store has its own customer service and return policies, and the 30 Day Return Policy it does publish covers purchases on acehardware.com only. That online policy asks for the original receipt and offers no alternative, which leaves a store purchase without a receipt up to the store where you bought it. Online orders are easy to trace: they sit in Order History and in the emails Ace sends after checkout.
Store rules and website rules
Think of Ace as two return desks. Anything bought over the counter follows that store's policy. Call or visit before you bring an item back without paperwork. Anything bought on acehardware.com follows the published 30-day policy, and Ace recommends returning it to an Ace store near you that can issue the refund. Without a nearby store, Customer Care at 888-827-4223 gives other return instructions.
Returning a website order
- Return most items within 30 days of purchase, unused, uninstalled and in the original packaging.
- Bring all paperwork: the packing slip or receipt, product instructions, parts and accessories.
- Bring a valid photo ID.
Refunds go back to the original form of payment, or onto a gift card if that payment method is not available. They take three to five business days to issue. Any Ace Rewards value used on the purchase is forfeited when the item comes back.
Online order lookup
Sign in on acehardware.com and open Order History under My Account to see recent and past orders. An order can take up to an hour to appear. Guest checkouts have no history page. For those, the emails matter: the Order Received email carries your order number and Ace suggests keeping it for your records, and a Return Summary email lists the items and the amount refunded after a return.
What Ace Rewards does and does not do
The program terms say your Ace Rewards account number may print at the bottom of a store receipt. They do not describe a purchase history or receipt reprint for in-store buys. The rewards account is not a substitute for the slip.
Items Ace will not take back
Gift cards, trading cards, clearance items and hazardous materials are excluded. Outdoor power equipment cannot be returned once fuel or oil has gone in, even if drained. Tinted paint ordered online is final. Some products ship straight from the vendor and follow the vendor's own return policy; Purchase History shows which ones.
Ace purchases in one place
Because the counter rules change from store to store, a clean record of each purchase is your best leverage at the desk. Forward the Order Received and Return Summary emails once and email receipt capture files them for you. Snap the store slip in the receipt scanner before it ends up in a toolbox, and job-site runs can go straight onto an expense report.
