Williams Sonoma accepts most items with proof of purchase within 30 days, and every store return or exchange needs an original receipt or a gift receipt. The original receipt refunds your payment method, while a gift receipt becomes a Merchandise Credit for the purchased amount. Signing in to your Williams Sonoma account gives you access to your orders.
Proof of purchase at Williams Sonoma
Items must be in new condition. Perishable food, monogrammed or personalized items, custom upholstery, made to order pieces including fabric by the yard, SMEG and La Cornue vendor-direct special orders, mattresses, outdoor grills, gift cards and final sale items ending in .97 are not returnable. Wear and tear is not a reason for return, and prior purchases do not get price adjustments.
The 2026 holiday window for gifts
Gift items bought between October 15 and December 24, 2026 can be returned or exchanged with a gift receipt or original receipt through January 31. The policy page prints that end date as January 31, 2026, which looks like a typo. Confirm the year with a store. Two details differ by who is returning:
- The buyer may get the credit back on the original form of payment.
- The gift recipient gets an eMerch Card.
Outlet stores and outlet purchases do not get the extension, and food and items shipped directly from vendors stay non-returnable.
Kitchen electrics and cutlery
Returns of electrics and of knife sets, single knives, cutting boards, sharpeners and knife storage may need extra information and safety instructions. Start them by calling 888.922.4108 or visiting a store.
Williams Sonoma Home orders placed online
Retail stores and Williams Sonoma or Williams Sonoma Home outlets no longer accept online purchases of Williams Sonoma Home products. Contact the Customer Care team instead. Furniture returns in general are arranged by phone.
Refunds on eMerchandise Cards
An online order paid with a gift card, e-gift card or merchandise credit is refunded on eMerchandise Cards, whatever the item. Plan for that if a client or employer reimbursed the purchase in cash.
