Receipts and invoices

At O'Reilly Auto Parts, the receipt isn't just proof that you paid. It's the warranty. O'Reilly's own warranty terms say you must have the original sales receipt to be eligible for warranty service, and the receipt is where the warranty length is printed.

The receipt is required for warranty service

O'Reilly states plainly: you must have the original sales receipt to be eligible for warranty service. Your warranty details are entered into O'Reilly's national warranty database once you give your customer information at purchase, but the terms still ask you to keep all original sales receipts. O'Reilly doesn't publish a way to replace a lost one. Keep it, or photograph it at the counter.

How long parts are covered

  • Default: one year from the date of purchase, unless your receipt states otherwise.
  • Limited Lifetime Warranty: if the receipt says so, the original part is covered as long as you own the vehicle it was installed on. Selling or transferring the vehicle ends it.
  • Commercial vehicles: 90 days from purchase for any product used on a commercial vehicle.
  • Replacements: a part replaced under warranty is covered for 90 days from the exchange or the rest of the original period, whichever is longer.
  • Batteries: covered to the end of the period printed on the receipt.

The warranty is for the original purchaser only and can't be transferred. Accidents, improper installation, misuse and off-road, racing or marine use are excluded.

Online orders

For a part bought on OReillyAuto.com, sign in, open My Account and follow the online instructions for warranty returns.

Parts as business expenses

For a work vehicle, the same receipt backs the expense claim and the sales tax. Note that O'Reilly limits parts installed on commercial vehicles to a 90-day warranty.

A receipt that has to last as long as the car

With a Limited Lifetime Warranty, the O'Reilly receipt may need to survive for as long as you own the vehicle. Take a picture of it with the Smartbills app before you leave the counter, and the part, the price, the taxes and the purchase date are stored for the day the part comes back. If you bought on OReillyAuto.com instead, the confirmation in your inbox is filed by email receipt capture.
