How to get a receipt from Loblaws, No Frills and Superstore

Receipts and invoices

A big shop at Loblaws, No Frills, Real Canadian Superstore or another Loblaw grocery banner ends with a long paper receipt, and for a store purchase that slip is the itemized record. Two other things look like records but serve a different purpose: the PC Optimum points history and, for online orders, the PC Express confirmation. Here is what each one holds.

What PC Optimum keeps

PC Optimum's help centre explains where to see your points balance: in the PC Optimum app, at pcoptimum.ca or in store. To earn points on a purchase, your card or app has to be scanned at the time you pay, and a cashier can also find your account with your phone number. When points are missing, you file a points inquiry in the app or on pcoptimum.ca, and PC Optimum Member Care can be reached at 1-866-727-6468.

Those help articles are about points. None of them describes a digital copy of a store receipt, and the points history doesn't list the items and taxes you'd need for a return or an expense claim.

PC Express pickup and delivery

Online grocery orders go through PC Express, for pickup or delivery, and the order confirmation comes by email. Weighed or substituted items can move the final total away from the amount you first saw. Check what was actually charged after pickup or delivery, and sign in to your PC Express account to look back at past orders. Searching your inbox for PC Express finds the emails.

Lost the store receipt?

The Loblaw banners' help pages don't describe a way to reprint or look up a receipt once you've left the store. A bank or card statement confirms the date and the amount paid to Loblaw stores, without a single product name or tax line. Taking a photo before the groceries are packed is the dependable fix.

Groceries bought for work

Office snacks, supplies for a client meeting or a staff event are business expenses, and the receipt has to carry the detail. The CRA's input tax credit rules ask for the store's GST/HST registration number once a purchase reaches $100. At $500 or more, the document must also name the buyer, describe what was bought and show the payment terms.

Filing a long grocery receipt

Scan the receipt in the Smartbills app before it ends up in a grocery bag: it's read item by item, with each tax line kept separate. PC Express confirmations that reach your inbox are picked up by email receipt capture without you forwarding anything.

Frequently asked questions

The Loblaw banners' help pages don't describe a lookup or reprint for store purchases. Photograph the receipt at the checkout. For a PC Express order, check the confirmation email and your PC Express account.

PC Optimum's help centre covers points balances and missing-points inquiries, not copies of receipts, and the points history doesn't show items or taxes. Keep the paper receipt or photograph it.

No. A bank statement shows a payment to the store and its amount, but none of the groceries or tax lines. A return or an expense claim needs the itemized receipt.
