How to get a Safeway receipt

Safeway

Safeway is two different grocers depending on which side of the border you shop. In Canada, Safeway stores run the Scene+ program and take online orders through Voilà, the same as Sobeys. In the United States, Safeway is part of Albertsons Companies, with its own app and the Safeway for U program. Where a receipt can be found afterwards depends on which one you shopped at.

Safeway stores in Canada

A purchase at a Canadian Safeway comes with a paper receipt at checkout. Safeway Canada doesn't publish a way to look up or reprint a store receipt later. The paper copy is the one to keep, or to photograph before it fades.

The receipt is also your proof for Scene+. If it shows points that haven't reached your Scene+ account, give it time first: points can take up to 48 hours to post. After that, contact Scene+ Member Services at 1-866-586-2805 or by chat with a photo of the receipt and the offer details. Keep in mind that scanning the card alone doesn't earn points per dollar at grocery stores; points come from offers, loaded offers, coupons and promotions, or from paying with a qualifying Scotiabank card.

Online orders in Canada go through Voilà

Online grocery orders from Safeway Canada are placed on Voilà, where you can sign in with the credentials you already use with Safeway or Sobeys. Voilà states that paper bag fees appear on your receipt, and that the pickup service fee is listed on the receipt as a "delivery fee". For items sold by weight, the final price is set once the order is weighed and appears on the invoice at delivery or pickup, and the amount you saw at checkout can change.

Safeway in the United States

The US Safeway app gives quick access to your online and in-store purchase history and lets you scan to save, pay and access your receipts. Online orders get a final receipt at delivery or pickup, and that receipt is where your Safeway for U savings show up. Safeway's older DirectPay FAQ adds two details: receipts there cover the last 120 days, and paying with Google Pay or Apple Pay doesn't create a digital receipt. Either way, your loyalty code has to be scanned at checkout for the purchase to be tied to you.

If purchases are missing from your history, Safeway's online shopping FAQ points you to Customer Service at (877) 505-4040.

Keeping Safeway receipts for work

Groceries bought for an office kitchen or a team event need the itemized receipt, since it shows which lines were taxed and which weren't. A card statement shows only the total.

Safeway receipts that don't depend on a paper slip

In the US, connect your Safeway account and our AI agent signs in to your purchase history and saves each receipt as it appears, through bill fetching, before the 120-day window closes on it. In Canada, the Safeway slip is all there is: take a photo with the Smartbills app at checkout, and it goes to your expense report with the taxable lines already split out.
