Petro-Canada gives you a receipt in one of two places. Pay at the pump with the Petro-Canada app and the receipt is delivered in the app once you finish fuelling. Pay with a card at the pump or inside the station and you get a printed receipt.
Paying at the pump with the Petro-Canada app
The app lets you pay for fuel without leaving the car. When the fill-up is done, Petro-Canada sends the receipt to the app, and the Petro-Points card stored in the app earns points on the same transaction without a separate scan. For a work vehicle, that in-app receipt is the record to keep: save a screenshot of it as soon as it appears if your employer wants a copy.
Printed receipts at the pump and in store
Petro-Canada doesn't publish a way to look up or reprint a receipt for a card payment made without the app. Take the receipt when the pump offers it, or ask inside before you leave. If you paid with a Petro-Canada gift card, the printed receipt also tells you what's left on it; Petro-Canada's terms point to your most recent receipt as one way to check the balance.
Why the receipt matters for Petro-Points
The Petro-Points terms treat the points shown on the purchase receipt as correct unless Suncor, which runs the program, decides otherwise. That makes the receipt your evidence when points are missing. The same terms give you 60 days from the date of a discrepancy to raise it with Suncor. Don't leave it for a quiet weekend two months from now.
You can check your balance at petro-points.ca or by calling 1-800-668-0220. Customer service also takes questions at customerservice@petro-canada.ca or by chat on petro-canada.ca. If points didn't appear after reloading a car wash card in the app, Petro-Canada says its agents are notified automatically and fix it within a few business days.
SuperPass fleet cards
For businesses, Petro-Canada says the app is currently the only way to make digital, secure payments with a SuperPass card at its retail stations. A fleet manager can set limits when drivers load the business SuperPass card on their own phones, such as capping the transaction amount or restricting the card to fuel, while drivers keep earning Petro-Points.
Fuel receipts for a business vehicle
The Canada Revenue Agency lets you claim the business share of your vehicle costs, fuel included, and that share comes from a logbook of business kilometres. Keep each fuel receipt with the date and station; it's the GST/HST on those receipts that supports an input tax credit.
Filing Petro-Canada receipts as you drive
Pump slips and app receipts end up in the same place with the Smartbills app: photograph the paper one at the pump, or pick the in-app receipt screenshots from your camera roll in a batch. Each one is read for the litres, the amount and the tax, then grouped onto an expense report for the trip or the month.
