How to get a Nordstrom receipt

Nordstrom

Nordstrom says a receipt or order number finds your purchase fastest, but without one it should still be able to locate the sale in other ways, possibly after asking you for more information. If no record of sale exists and Nordstrom decides to refund you, it asks for personal identification and gives the current price on a Nordstrom gift card. Nordstrom sets no time limit on returns or exchanges and decides each one case by case.

Purchase history lookup with The Nordy Club

Your Nordstrom.com purchase history shows order status, order dates and order numbers for past purchases. Members of The Nordy Club also see their in-store purchases there, next to online orders. International orders are not included.

Nordstrom warns that older orders may no longer be viewable in your account. For those, it points you to your order confirmation emails or to customer care at 1.888.282.6060.

Bringing it back in store or by mail

Any register in a Nordstrom store can take a return, with the refund expected in 3 to 5 business days. To send it by mail with an account:

  1. Sign in and open your Purchases page.
  2. Choose Details on the order.
  3. Select Start a Return and complete the form.
  4. Print the prepaid label, or show the QR code at an eligible USPS or FedEx location.

Guests start the same return with the order number and ZIP code. Nordstrom Rack stores also accept Nordstrom merchandise, except fine jewelry and designer items, and boutique purchases go back to the store where they were bought.

Returning to Nordstrom without a receipt

Refunds with a sales receipt go to the original form of payment. Without one, Nordstrom first tries to find the sale. Only when it cannot, and chooses to refund anyway, does the ID step apply: you show identification and get the current price, not the price you paid, on a Nordstrom gift card. Nordstrom explains the ID request as an internal auditing step that lets it monitor and investigate returns without a record of sale. It also says plainly that it may not accept every return.

How Nordstrom handles exchanges

Nordstrom recommends ordering the replacement online or calling 1.888.282.6060 for the best selection. On a mailed exchange, your account is charged for the new item and credited for the return. Fine jewelry cannot be mailed back at all: take it to a store with a Fine Jewelry department along with the order confirmation, email or digital receipt, or the card you paid with.

Nordstrom receipts saved before the history fades

With no deadline on returns, a Nordstrom receipt can matter years later, long after the account history has let go of it. Email receipt capture keeps every Nordstrom order confirmation and digital receipt from your inbox. Hook up Nordstrom.com to bill fetching and our agent reads your Purchases page, filing every order it lists. A paper receipt from a store visit takes one photo in the Smartbills app.
