How to get a Macy's receipt

Macy's

No receipt is often not a problem at Macy's. A store colleague may find your purchase from the credit card you used, your order number or confirmation email, the packing slip or shipping label, or a gift registry number. Macy's eReceipt FAQ adds that receipt information can usually be retrieved for up to two years, and if it cannot be found, a store credit may be issued for the item's lowest selling price within the last 180 days.

Store purchase lookup in your Macy's account

Save your credit card to your Macy's Wallet and eligible store purchases appear online, as far back as October 12, 2018.

  1. On a computer, open the menu at the top right and choose Order History. In the app, go to My Account, then Order History.
  2. Select See Store Purchases.

You see in-store purchases and returns made with that card, even when the sale also used cash, gift cards or Star Money. It is a summary, not the full receipt. Most furniture and mattress purchases, and orders a colleague placed in store for shipping, do not appear.

Choosing eReceipts

Macy's can email your store receipts, print them, or both. Set it under Profile, Preferences, Notifications, then edit In Store Receipts; a colleague may also confirm your choice at checkout. An eReceipt works for returns exactly like paper. For a missing eReceipt or a replacement, Customer Care is at 1-866-593-2543.

Returning to Macy's without a receipt

Most items go back within 30 days of delivery or purchase, unworn, with tags. Store purchases must be returned to a Macy's store, and refunds normally go to the original payment.

Macy's main return policy page does not give one general rule for a return with no receipt that cannot be looked up. The figures appear in other places, and they differ:

  • The eReceipt FAQ: store credit at the lowest selling price within the last 180 days.
  • Registry returns without proof of purchase: store credit at the lowest selling price in the last 180 days.
  • Macy's Backstage purchases: store credit at the lowest selling price in the last 90 days, and a name and address may be required.

Designer items such as Burberry and Louis Vuitton need the original receipt, and rugs need a valid receipt.

Exchanges at Macy's

Store purchases are exchanged in a store. Online purchases can be exchanged in a store too, while a mailed exchange is treated as a return: you get a refund, then place a new order at the current price. Bring the receipt if you have it; otherwise the same lookups apply.

Macy's receipts archived beyond the Wallet

Store purchases only show online when the right card sits in your Wallet, and the history is a summary. Email receipt capture files each Macy's eReceipt and order confirmation with its full detail. Through bill fetching, our AI agent opens See Store Purchases and your online orders in your Macy's account and stores each one. If the register printed paper, a photo in the Smartbills app keeps it.
