Hydro-Québec

Your Hydro-Québec bills are in your Customer Space, listed in date order. They stay online for two years, and payment history goes back one year.

Getting into Customer Space

If you do not have a Customer Space yet, create one with your most recent bill in hand. The contract holder uses their own latest bill. A proxy holder or account manager uses a recent bill for the account they manage. Some business rate accounts also need the customer number.

Viewing and downloading bills

  1. Log in to your Customer Space.
  2. Open your bills and payment history.
  3. Open a bill to view it, and download it as a PDF to keep your own copy.

For a quick check without opening each bill, the online bill summaries show the billing date, the electricity used and the taxes.

What the bill shows

The summary section shows the cost of electricity, the taxes, any other charges and the amount of the bill. The detailed section calculates the electricity cost from the rate and the number of days, with any credits. If a business has several contracts on one bill, the amount of the bill is the total across all of them.

Keeping bills longer than two years

Hydro-Québec only keeps two years online. Download the PDFs you need before then: Revenu Québec and the CRA can ask for records going back six years.

Several accounts

If you manage 10 or more accounts (a landlord or a business with several sites), Hydro-Québec's multiple account search tool lets you filter by billing date, due date or bill number and download the selected bills as PDF or XML files.

Hydro bills, GST and QST

If you claim a share of your electricity for a home office or a business location, each bill is the record, and it shows the GST and QST charged. That is what supports an input tax credit and an input tax refund.

Paying a Hydro-Québec bill and Pre-authorized Debit

You have 21 days from the billing date to pay, and the bill counts as paid on the day Hydro-Québec receives the money. Online Payment in your Customer Space authorizes a withdrawal from your bank account at any time. Eleven financial institutions take the bill, and cheques, postal money orders or bank drafts go to Hydro-Québec, C. P. 11022, succ. Centre-ville, Montréal (Québec) H3C 4V6. Credit cards are refused because card issuers charge fees.

Pre-authorized Debit is free and settles each bill from your bank account. Log in to Customer Space and follow Sign up for pre-authorized debit. The Equalized Payments Plan can sit on top: Hydro-Québec estimates the year's total and splits it into 12 equal installments.

A debit for the same amount every month says nothing about actual use. Save each bill from Customer Space, because that is where the GST and QST you claim back appear.

Hydro-Québec bills saved past the two-year mark

Two years online is shorter than the six years tax records need. Connect your Customer Space and our AI agent signs in each billing period, saves the bill PDF and reads the GST and QST for tax time, through bill fetching. Hydro-Québec's emails telling you a bill is ready can be caught by email receipt capture as well. For a landlord with a dozen meters, that replaces the multiple account search entirely.
