At tax time, Uniprix customers usually need one document: a list of the prescriptions they paid for during the year. Uniprix lets you download it yourself, as long as your pharmacy file is connected to the Uniprix app.
Downloading the list
Uniprix's app FAQ gives these steps:
- Open the Uniprix Web Application. The feature is currently only available there, not in the phone app.
- Scroll to the Prescription List for Tax Purposes section at the bottom of the screen.
- Select Download and enter the date range, for example January 1 to December 31 of the previous year.
If your file isn't connected
The download only works if your pharmacy offers a connection to your file through the application and that connection has been set up. If it hasn't, ask your pharmacist for help with the steps to activate it; the connection is set up with your own pharmacy.
Store receipts are a separate thing
The prescription list covers prescriptions only. Over-the-counter products, cosmetics and other store purchases are on the paper receipt you get at the cash, and Uniprix doesn't publish a way to look those up later. Keep those receipts if you plan to claim anything from them.
Using the list on your return
Prescription drugs are among the expenses that can count toward the medical expense credit on your federal and Québec returns, and the list gives you the amounts by date. Keep it with your tax records in case either government asks for proof.
If the app shows an error
Uniprix recommends taking a screenshot of the error message before contacting support, since it helps with troubleshooting.
The Uniprix list filed with the rest of your tax papers
The list downloads as a file, and the Smartbills app takes a PDF the same way it takes a photo, reading each prescription line and its amount. Filed with your other medical receipts, it comes back out in one bundle with tax receipts when you or your accountant sit down to do the return.
