How to get a Linear invoice
Founder & CEO, Smartbills

Linear invoices are under Settings, Administration, Billing, where workspace admins see past invoices and charges. The same page holds the payment details and the billing email. Once Linear issues an invoice it is final: it is not edited or cancelled, and later changes show up on upcoming invoices.
Finding past invoices
Open Linear's settings, go to Administration, then Billing. The billing history lists invoices and charges, and flags any failed or past-due payment. Admins change the card or the billing email on the same screen.
Adding a VAT number
When you upgrade, choose I'm purchasing as a business on the checkout page and enter the VAT number. For a subscription that is already running, go to Billing, then Billing Details, and click Edit. Invoices cannot be corrected afterwards. Add the number before the next renewal.
Sales tax and the billing address
The billing address you give decides whether sales tax applies. Linear lists several US states and Chicago, Illinois among the places it charges sales tax as of January 2026. Fix a wrong address in billing settings before the next charge.
Seat changes, true-ups and credits
On yearly plans, each added user creates a prorated charge for the rest of the subscription year. Linear reconciles users every monthly cycle, counted from the plan's start date, and bills additions on a true-up invoice that is charged automatically or emailed. Suspending a user creates a prorated credit for future invoices or renewals. Credits are never paid out. On monthly plans, users added mid-month are billed from the next month, and users removed mid-month earn no credit.
Cancelling
A cancellation takes effect at the end of the billing period. Linear gives no refund for cancelling part way through a subscription.
Linear true-ups filed with the annual invoice
A yearly Linear plan produces one large renewal and a series of smaller true-ups as the team grows. Set the billing email to an address that email receipt capture reads and each document is filed as soon as Linear sends it. Admins who prefer to pull invoices can connect a login, and our AI agent downloads new entries from the billing history with bill fetching. A founder who paid on a personal card claims it back on an expense report.
