At Big Lots, the paper receipt from the register is the only record of your purchase, and its FAQ says a receipt is required for all returns. Since the chain was bought by Variety Wholesalers and began reopening stores, Big Lots sells in stores only: there is no online shopping and no rewards program that could hold a purchase history.
Why there is no receipt lookup
Big Lots' FAQ describes no way to reprint a receipt or look up a sale. With no online orders and no loyalty account, nothing ties a purchase to your name. Big Lots says more than 200 locations have reopened and store availability varies. Even a call to the store you bought from depends on that store.
The return policy at the reopened stores
- Most items can be returned within 30 days with a receipt.
- Refunds go back to the original form of payment, with a valid receipt.
- Furniture has 14 days and must be in original condition.
- All mattress sales are final.
- Returns are reviewed case by case and can be declined.
Items Big Lots will not take back
Bras, panties, swimsuits, prepaid phone cards and gift cards are non-returnable. Worn, used or soiled items are refused. Underwear must be unopened, while sleepwear may be returned. Opened books, music and videos cannot be refunded but can be exchanged for the same title.
Delivery and lease-to-own paperwork
Many stores arrange furniture delivery through a third-party provider whose price and contact details come from the store. That provider bills separately from your Big Lots receipt. Lease-to-own purchases run through Progressive Leasing, which issues its own agreement, and protection plans on select items are sold through Mulberry.
Big Lots receipts for rentals and break rooms
A landlord buying a closeout sofa or an office stocking its break room has one shot at the receipt, and the 14-day furniture window leaves little time to notice it is gone. Photograph each Big Lots slip in the Smartbills app before you leave the parking lot. The photo feeds expense reports for reimbursement and the year-end file in tax receipts.
