How to find Apple Pay receipts

Apple Pay

Apple Pay doesn't issue receipts of its own. The receipt comes from the store, and the Wallet app keeps a transaction history next to it. To see a payment, open Wallet on your iPhone, tap the card you paid with and tap the transaction. For the itemized receipt with taxes, look for the store's paper or email receipt, or for online purchases, the order under Orders in Wallet.

Apple Pay transactions on iPhone

  1. Open the Wallet app.
  2. Tap the card you used to list its latest transactions.
  3. Tap a transaction for its details, or to report an issue.

The list can include payments made with the physical card as well, not only Apple Pay. Apple says the most accurate record is the one your card issuer keeps, and an amount shown in Wallet can differ from the final charge. Questions about a charge go to your bank or card issuer rather than Apple.

On Apple Watch, Mac, iPad and Vision Pro

On Apple Watch, open Wallet, tap a card, then a transaction. The watch shows the details but can't report an issue. On a Mac with Touch ID, choose the Apple menu, then System Settings and Wallet & Apple Pay. On an iPad or Apple Vision Pro, go to Settings, then Wallet & Apple Pay. Select a card and open the Transactions tab.

Online orders and their details

Select Apple Pay purchases made on iOS 16, iPadOS 16, macOS 13 or later are tracked in Wallet automatically. From iOS 17, iPadOS 17 or macOS Sonoma, a Track with Apple Wallet button on an order confirmation adds other orders by hand. Open Wallet, tap Orders and pick one to see its status and, when the merchant shares them, the order and payment details. Manage Order opens the merchant's site and Email This Merchant writes to them.

Wallet only shows what the merchant sends, so a wrong total or a missing item is a question for the merchant. With Apple Intelligence on the latest iOS, receipts found in Mail and Photos can also appear in your transaction history. On iOS 26 or later, turn on Mail under Settings, Wallet & Apple Pay, Order Tracking to follow orders from your order emails.

Two years of history from a connected card

Some card issuers let you connect the account behind the card. In Wallet, tap the card, then Get Started (or the More button and Card Details) and Get Account Balance & Activity. Once it's connected, Wallet shows the balance and up to two years of transactions, including purchases not made with Apple Pay. Apple lists eligible issuers in the UK, and in the US a similar feature covers PayPal debit cards. It needs iOS 17.1 or later.

Why a store's receipt lookup can miss an Apple Pay purchase

Apple Pay pays with a different card number from the one printed on your card, a form of tokenisation. Store systems that find your receipts through a linked card often can't see those payments. Home Depot says phone wallet purchases won't show in purchase history through a linked card, and Safeway's DirectPay FAQ says Apple Pay payments don't create a digital receipt. When you tap your phone at checkout, ask for the paper slip or an emailed copy.

Keeping the receipts behind your Apple Pay taps

Wallet records that you paid, not what you bought. Photograph the paper slip in the Smartbills app and it goes into your receipt wallet, where you can find it later by store, date or amount. Online Apple Pay orders usually end with a confirmation email, and email receipt capture reads it from your inbox item by item, taxes included. For shops that keep receipts behind a login, connect the account and our AI agent fetches each one through bill fetching.

Frequently asked questions

No. Apple Pay only handles the payment. The receipt comes from the store, on paper, by email or in its app, and the Wallet app keeps a transaction history.

In the Wallet app on iPhone: tap the card you paid with, then the transaction.

Apple Pay uses a different card number from your physical card, so lookups through a linked card often miss it. Home Depot says this about its purchase history.

Up to two years once you connect an eligible card account in Wallet. Without that, Wallet lists the card's latest transactions.
