How to find Google Pay receipts

Google Pay

Google Pay keeps a record of each payment, not the store's receipt. To find a payment, open the Google Wallet app, tap View more, then View more transactions, and tap the one you want. On a computer, go to wallet.google.com and click Transactions. Google says these entries don't replace the original receipt, so the itemized one with taxes still comes from the merchant.

In the Google Wallet app

  1. Open Google Wallet.
  2. Tap View more, then View more transactions.
  3. Find the payment with the search bar, or scroll to it.
  4. Tap it for details, which can include the payment method and the device used.

For a single card, tap that card and then View more transactions. Only payments made after the card was added are listed. Removing a card or pass can erase its history, so leave it in Wallet until you have what you need.

On the Google Wallet website

At wallet.google.com, click Transactions at the top left. Recent payments come first, and View more transactions goes further back. The search bar filters by business name, amount, date or period, category and refunds, and phrases such as "this month" or "greater than $100" work too. The site covers contactless payments from an Android phone, virtual card payments online and, in the US, accounts linked through Plaid.

Seeing where you tapped

A tap to pay entry can show where the purchase happened if Google Wallet may use your location. In your phone's Settings, open Apps, then Google Wallet (under See all apps if it's hidden), Permissions and Location, and choose Allow only while using the app. It applies to new transactions only. Purchase notifications, which open a payment's details in one tap, are turned on or off under your profile picture and Wallet settings.

Online orders pulled from Gmail (US)

In the US, Google Wallet can read order emails from Gmail once that's turned on in Gmail settings. Orders from supported merchants then show detailed receipts, tracking numbers and shipping status. In the app, tap View more, then View more transactions and the Orders filter. On the website, click Transactions, then Orders. Deleting an order in Wallet doesn't delete the email in Gmail.

Google's own purchases are listed elsewhere

Subscriptions and purchases from Google Play, YouTube and Google One don't appear on the Google Wallet website. Their receipts are in the Google payments center, covered in how to find Google Play receipts.

When a store can't match a Google Pay tap

Your phone pays with its own card number rather than the one embossed on the card, which is tokenisation at work. Receipt lookups tied to a linked card can come back empty as a result. Safeway's DirectPay FAQ says Google Pay payments don't create a digital receipt, and Home Depot can't add a phone wallet's number to your profile. Keep the slip the cashier hands you, or have it emailed.

Turning Google Pay payments into receipts you keep

A Wallet entry gives the store, the amount and sometimes the place, but no items and no taxes. Snap the paper slip in the Smartbills app and it lands in your receipt wallet, searchable later. Order confirmations in Gmail are picked up by email receipt capture, each line and tax read off, which also covers shoppers outside the US where Wallet's Gmail orders aren't offered. Receipts kept inside a store account can be fetched by our AI agent once you connect it, through bill fetching.
