Receipts and invoices

Austin Energy charges are billed by City of Austin Utilities, on one bill that can also cover water, wastewater, drainage, solid waste and street service. Quick Payment, online or at 1-833-375-4919, needs no login and posts the same day for a $3.90 residential convenience fee. Bills come by mail unless you switch to Paperless Billing, which delivers them by email.

Quick Payment without a login

Quick Payment runs through Paymentus and accepts several payment methods. The fee is $3.90 per residential payment and $10.00 per commercial one. For no-fee options, use the online account, Autopay, the mail or a drop box. If you can't pay because of financial hardship, call Customer Care at 512-494-9400.

Service centers, pay stations and drop boxes

  • Utility Customer Service Centers: North at 8716 Research Blvd., Suite 115, and South at 1901 W. William Cannon Drive, Suite 100, weekdays 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Authorized pay stations: cash at stores including ACE Cash Express, CVS, Dollar General, H-E-B, Office Depot, Randalls, Regions Bank, Walgreens, Walmart and Western Union. Stores may charge $0.75 to $2.95.
  • Drop boxes: checks or money orders with the stub, no cash, at 625 East 10th Street, 505 Barton Springs Road and both service centers. Allow 3 to 5 business days, and skip the drop box after a disconnection notice.

Autopay from your bank account

  1. Log in to City of Austin Online Customer Care, or call 512-494-9400, or send the Autopay Enrollment Form by mail or fax.
  2. Have your utility account number, bank account number and routing number ready.
  3. Keep paying by hand until the Autopay message appears on your bill.

Autopay is free and debits the full balance within two business days of the due date. Bank changes and cancellations need 10 business days before a due date to apply to that bill, and each account is cancelled separately. A monthly bill still arrives by mail unless you go paperless. It shows the charges by service. File it rather than the bank debit.

Getting the bill by email

Paperless Billing sends your monthly bill notification to your inbox. Turn it on or off in Online Customer Care or by calling 512-494-9400. The City's help pages don't describe a way to pull up older bills. Save each email when it arrives.

One Austin bill, several services, sorted

A City of Austin Utilities bill mixes electricity with water, trash and drainage, which a landlord or home office may need to split. email receipt capture files each paperless bill email as it lands. If yours still comes on paper, the receipt scanner reads a photo of it. Either way the bill can be added to an expense report.
