Toronto Hydro

Toronto Hydro bills are free to download from the self-serve portal. Log in to your online account, open your bills and download the one you need. A duplicate mailed by Toronto Hydro costs $25. The portal is the cheaper route.

Getting into the self-serve portal

An online account is required to see your bill, payment history and usage. If you do not have one, register for access from the Log In link on torontohydro.com. Customers who use the portal can also chat with a representative Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

An eBill is not the email

Toronto Hydro separates the two. The eBill is the full digital bill stored in your online account. The eBill notification is an email that arrives when a new bill is ready, showing the amount and due date, with a link to log in. To read the full bill, you still sign in and download it. Sign up for eBills from the self-serve portal.

Downloading in the Toronto Hydro app

The Toronto Hydro app gives the same access to bills and eBill sign-up. When you download a bill in the app, you may not see a notification. Check the Downloads folder on your device, where the file is saved.

HST on a Toronto Hydro bill

Toronto Hydro's breakdown of a typical residential bill lists Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) as one of its parts, alongside electricity, delivery and regulatory charges. For a business or home office, the downloaded bill is the record of the HST you paid on electricity, which supports an input tax credit claim if you are registered.

Paying a Toronto Hydro bill and Pre-Authorized Debit

Pay through your bank, at a branch, by telephone or online, using the 10-digit Toronto Hydro account number and the payee name Toronto Hydro-Electric System. Cheques go to Toronto Hydro, PO Box 4490 STN A, Toronto, ON M5W 4H3, with the account number in the memo. Credit cards are refused unless you have received a disconnection notice or been disconnected.

Pre-Authorized Debit (PAD) withdraws the total due from your bank account on each due date:

  1. Have your current bill and banking information ready.
  2. Sign in to the self-serve portal, or register for it, and open the Pre-Authorized Debit page.
  3. If online enrollment does not work, send the residential PAD form (PDF) instead.

PAD never covers a bill already sent; pay that one another way. The Equal Payment Plan needs PAD in place first. Each bill arrives two weeks before the withdrawal, and that bill, with its HST line, is what backs the expense.

Toronto Hydro bills filed without the login step

Because the notification email only links to the portal, the bill itself never reaches your inbox. Connect your Toronto Hydro online account and our AI agent logs in when a bill is issued, downloads the PDF and records the HST for tax time, through bill fetching. Smartbills still reads the notification email with email receipt capture as a signal that the next bill is due.
