Scotiabank's Help Centre covers the case where you have no cheques for your account: you can view, print or download the void cheque details for a chequing account. The path depends on whether you use the app, the new online banking or the classic one.
In the Scotia app
- From the app's Home screen, tap your chequing account.
- Tap Manage.
- Tap Direct deposit/void cheque info.
- Open the void cheque and tap View/Print.
In online banking (new version)
- From the home page, select your account.
- Select Account information from the side navigation menu.
- Select Show next to Direct deposit info.
- Scroll to Void cheque info and select View/download.
- Select Get void cheque on the next page to download it.
The same page has a Share info option to send your direct deposit details to someone directly.
In online banking (classic version)
- From your Accounts page, select your chequing account.
- Select Direct Deposits & Payments.
- Go to Void Cheque and select View/Print.
What the void cheque shows
Scotiabank's void cheque lists your branch's five-digit transit number, the bank's three-digit institution number and the account number. Scotiabank's institution number is 002 in Payments Canada's directory of members.
Each group of digits on the Scotiabank void cheque has a fixed place along the bottom, explained in how to read a void cheque. When a form wants a nine-digit routing number, bank routing numbers in Canada shows how Scotiabank's 002 and your transit number fit together.
Checking supplier banking details
The Share info option is handy, but a void cheque that travels as a PDF can still be edited on the way, and one wrong digit diverts a payment. Smartbills vendor management lets each supplier record its own banking details instead of you retyping them from a file. A supplier whose account or tax number already belongs to another vendor is flagged as a likely duplicate, and accounts payable pays from the vendor record.
