How to get a Fly.io invoice
Founder & CEO, Smartbills
2 min read
Fly.io bills each organization monthly, and its invoices are in the Billing section of the dashboard for that organization. To download a past invoice, click View next to the billing cycle. That opens the Stripe billing portal, where the PDF can be saved.
Downloading a past invoice
- Sign in to the Fly.io dashboard and select the organization.
- Open Billing.
- Find the cycle and click View.
- In the Stripe billing portal, download the invoice.
The invoice shows a breakdown of charges. Extra RAM above a preset's base amount is a common reason the total is higher than expected.
Why each organization has its own invoice
Billing is per organization. If you run a personal org for experiments and a company org for production, they produce two invoices and need two downloads. Started Machines are billed per second while running, and stopped Machines still pay for root filesystem storage. Even a quiet org can show a small charge.
Paying with credits
Monthly invoicing needs a credit card or credits. Credits are bought from the Billing section, with a $25 minimum, and each month's usage is deducted from the balance. Prepaid cards cannot be the default payment method, but they can buy credits. Keep the credit purchase record as well as the monthly invoice, since the invoice may be settled from a balance paid weeks earlier.
Unified billing across organizations
A Billing Organization can receive one invoice covering up to 100 Linked Organizations, which share its credits. Only admins can link an organization, and a link cannot currently be detached. Fly.io recommends saving any invoices you need from an organization before linking it.
Unexpected charges
For compute launched by accident or traffic from an attack, Fly.io asks you to email billing@fly.io to discuss a refund. Fly.io's billing docs do not describe adding a company name or VAT number to invoices. Ask the billing team about that too.
Fly.io invoices from every org in one place
With several organizations and a Stripe portal behind each one, Fly.io invoices are easy to miss. Connect the login and our AI agent visits each org's Billing section and saves the PDFs with bill fetching, including the cycles you would otherwise forget before linking orgs. Credit purchases made on a personal card belong in expense reports, and subscription tracking shows what each org costs from month to month.
