Alternatives

Ramp alternatives

Ramp is a corporate card and spend management platform, and the card is where both the product and the business model start. Interchange pays for the software and the rebate, and the rest is built outward from the card: issuing it, setting controls on it and reconciling what it captures.

Why people look

Why teams look for a Ramp alternative

The reasons that come up in evaluations. Whether they apply to you depends mostly on where your receipts come from.

All I get is a merchant name and an amount, which tells me nothing about what was actually bought.

The merchant's receipt arrives with the transaction and lists every line as the POS recorded it, which usually makes the GL code obvious.

We know we're leaving sales tax and VAT on the table, but we can't back a claim without the document.

Because each line exists as data, recoverable items are easy to pick out, and the claim rests on the merchant's own record instead of on someone having kept the slip.

Plenty of our spend never touches the corporate card, and the card tool simply can't see it.

Capture doesn't care how something was paid for. Network receipts, emailed invoices and photographed slips all end up in the same ledger.

Disclosure

And Smartbills, which is ours

Slipping our own product into a roundup without saying so is exactly what makes these pages worthless, so to be clear, this one is ours.

Smartbills

Best for: Businesses whose spend problem is paperwork more than behavior: missing receipts, missing line detail and tax they can't recover without evidence.

Smartbills vs Ramp

How this list was put together

These are the products that come up in the same evaluations as Ramp, drawn from what prospects actually shortlist against it and from the rest of its category. The order is editorial rather than a ranking, because we don't run benchmarks on products we don't operate, and a scored table written by a vendor about its competitors isn't evidence. Each entry links to a full comparison with claims specific enough to check.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What people ask us before they sign up.

Either. Smartbills reads card and bank feeds and matches receipts to them. It can run on top of an existing Ramp program or replace it if you'd rather consolidate. You never have to move your cards first.

No. Smartbills issues corporate and virtual cards, but the business isn't funded by interchange, which is why capture works the same whether or not the spend went on our card.

For card controls and rebates inside the United States, Ramp goes deeper than we do. For line-level detail, tax recovery and receipts across several countries, the comparison runs the other way.

Ramp is funded by interchange and Smartbills isn't. A like-for-like number depends on your card volume. Compare the plan you'd actually buy against the rebate you'd realistically earn.
