Expense management software for Norwegian businesses

Keep Norwegian VAT and each supporting receipt with the expense. Smartbills separates entertainment and foreign purchases, so your team can review the right records before filing.

Smartbills takes the VAT from each receipt line, at 25%, 15% or 12%, and keeps each purchase categorized, foreign receipts included.

VAT read from the receipt, entertainment set apart

Every line keeps the rate it was charged, 25%, 15% or 12%, with the supplier's organization number when the receipt shows it. Representation, where VAT isn't deductible, is set apart from deductible spend.

  • VAT kept per line at 25%, 15% and 12%
  • Representation set apart
  • Foreign VAT kept apart

Receipts that arrive on their own

Receipts that arrive by email are pulled from a connected Gmail, Outlook or Zoho mailbox, and merchants on the Smartbills network send the itemized receipt at checkout. The month doesn't end with a receipt hunt, and nobody photographs a crumpled receipt on the way home.

  • Emailed receipts and invoices pulled from the mailbox
  • Digital receipts from merchants on the network
  • Matched to the card or bank line when it clears

Posted to the books your accountant uses

Coded expenses post to Xero, QuickBooks Online, Sage or NetSuite with the receipt attached and the VAT in its own account. If your accountant works in Tripletex or Visma, expenses export to Excel or CSV.

Why teams switch

The tax is on the receipt, not the card statement.

Entertainment VAT keeps ending up in our deduction.

Each line keeps its category. Representation is set apart before the return.

One trip puts 25%, 15% and 12% on the same report, and we book one rate.

VAT comes from each line of the receipt. Each rate is recorded as charged.

Receipts from Stockholm come back with Swedish VAT mixed in.

Foreign receipts keep their own country and rate, apart from Norwegian input VAT.

Before and after

What changes on a Norwegian receipt.

Norway has three VAT rates and allows no deduction on entertainment. One trip's receipts can use all three rates.
