Expense management software for Luxembourg businesses

Keep Luxembourg VAT and cross-border receipts in one clear record. Smartbills separates foreign tax from local business expenses before your team prepares the return.

Smartbills takes the VAT from each receipt line and keeps Belgian, French and German receipts apart from your Luxembourg return.

VAT read from the receipt, line by line

Every line keeps the rate it was charged, 17%, 14%, 8% or 3%, with the supplier's VAT number when the receipt shows it. Foreign receipts keep their own country's VAT, apart from what you deduct in Luxembourg.

  • VAT kept per line at 17%, 14%, 8% and 3%
  • Foreign VAT kept apart from Luxembourg input VAT
  • Supplier VAT number kept with the receipt

Receipts that arrive on their own

Receipts that arrive by email are pulled from a connected Gmail, Outlook or Zoho mailbox, and merchants on the Smartbills network send the itemized receipt at checkout. The month doesn't end with a receipt hunt, and nobody photographs a crumpled receipt on the train.

  • Emailed receipts and invoices pulled from the mailbox
  • Digital receipts from merchants on the network
  • Matched to the card or bank line when it clears

Posted to the books your accountant uses

Coded expenses post to Xero, QuickBooks Online, Sage or NetSuite with the receipt attached and the VAT in its own account. If your accountant works in other software, expenses export to Excel or CSV.

Why teams switch

The tax is on the receipt, not the card statement.

Receipts from Metz, Arlon and Trier end up in our Luxembourg VAT return.

Foreign receipts keep their own country and rate, separate from Luxembourg input VAT.

Restaurant bills carry 3% on food and 17% on wine, and we book one rate.

VAT comes from each line of the receipt, so each rate is recorded as charged.

Our team works in French, German, Luxembourgish and English.

Each person uses the app in French or English, and receipts are kept in the language they were issued in.

Before and after

What changes on a Luxembourg receipt.

Luxembourg taxes food at 3% and drinks at 17%, and plenty of receipts come from across the border. Neither fits one rate on the total.
