Expense management software for Singapore businesses

Keep GST and supplier details with every Singapore business receipt. Smartbills helps your team separate expenses that need different treatment before filing.

Smartbills keeps each receipt, its GST and its category together, with blocked expenses kept apart from what you can claim.

GST and the category that decides the claim

Every receipt keeps its 9% GST and the supplier's GST registration number, and each line keeps its category. Disallowed expenses, such as club memberships and medical costs, are set apart from claimable spend.

  • GST kept per receipt, as charged
  • Supplier GST registration number kept
  • Disallowed expenses set apart

Receipts that arrive on their own

Receipts that arrive by email are pulled from a connected Gmail, Outlook or Zoho mailbox, and merchants on the Smartbills network send the itemized receipt at checkout. The month doesn't end with a receipt hunt, and nobody photographs a crumpled receipt on the way home.

  • Emailed receipts and invoices pulled from the mailbox
  • Digital receipts from merchants on the network
  • Matched to the card or bank line when it clears

Posted to the books your accountant uses

Coded expenses post to Xero, QuickBooks Online, Sage or NetSuite with the receipt attached and the GST in its own account, ready for your GST return. If your accountant works in other software, expenses export to Excel or CSV.

Why teams switch

The tax is on the receipt, not the card statement.

Receipts over S$1,000 need a full tax invoice, and we only kept the register receipt.

The invoice arrives from the mailbox and is attached to the expense with the supplier's GST number.

Club fees and staff medical bills end up in the GST claim.

Each line keeps its category, so disallowed expenses are set apart before the return.

Receipts from trips to Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta come back mixed in.

Foreign receipts keep their own country and tax, apart from Singapore input tax.

Before and after

What changes on a Singapore receipt.

Above S$1,000, IRAS expects a full tax invoice, and club and medical expenses aren't claimable. A register receipt covers neither.

For purchases of S$1,000 or less including GST, a simplified tax invoice, such as a register receipt showing the supplier's name, GST registration number, date and the total including GST, supports a claim. Above S$1,000 you need a full tax invoice.

Among others, club membership fees, medical and accident insurance for staff unless required by law, medical expenses, benefits for employees' family members, and motor car expenses. Smartbills keeps each purchase categorized so those lines are set apart.
