When the store sends receipts through Smartbills, they arrive on their own. For any other store, take a photo of the paper receipt or upload the one that came by email.
Generally, yes. The CRA accepts electronic copies of paper receipts as long as they are complete and readable, and you must keep your records for six years from the end of the tax year they relate to. Smartbills keeps the image and the receipt details together, so you can find them if you're asked.
